In the lows, the EXA100 produces a sound that is energetic, full and big. It goes deep into the sub-bass with excellent extension and drive. My speakers sounded a little heavier on the bones than with my reference PS Audio amps, which gave me a more dynamic and room-filling sound overall.
There is great resolution and texture in each bass-note, especially analogue bass has a beautiful sound where you can detect string plucks and their minute details. Overall bass is slightly forward positioned in the signature, but in an inoffensive way, where lows aren’t thrown in your face, but rather placed in better spotlight.
A track I often come back to for testing the low end is The Midnight’s Sunset. The EXA100 delivers full bodied bass with excellent dynamics. This track can underdeliver, if the bass notes are not carrying enough weight and presence, but the EXA truly shines in that regard, making this song an absolute delight to listen to.
One of the most important characteristics of audio gear to me is for it to have a natural sound, and the EXA100 certainly delivers. Music sounds organic, full and lifelike. Every instrument is rendered with body and weight, but without overdoing it. The Cambridge Audio amplifier creates a sound that has soul and emotions, but also density and a natural appearance.
